Why Your Participation Matters
The cost of youth sports can be a significant investment, with the average family spending $2,292 per year on them. In Akron, this is particularly challenging as more than one third of children live below the poverty line. The “Creating Chances” Scholarship program helps bridge this gap by providing financial assistance to talented young players who may not be able to afford the cost of premier-level soccer.
The Ambassadors Football Club's mission is to be a high-performance, Christ-centered football club that changes the lives of its members. One of the club's main values is to make soccer available to all young people, regardless of their financial situation. To fulfill this mission, Ambassadors Football established the “Creating Chances” Scholarship program. This program supports any and all families in the club who might be suffering from financial distress that they do not have the resources to overcome.
By participating in the 2025 5K run, you'll be directly contributing to this mission. Your donation can help cover costs for:
- Cleats: $75 provides a new pair of cleats.
- Uniforms & Tournaments: $150 covers a full uniform or a local tournament.
- Out-of-Town Tournaments: $350 covers travel and entry fees for an out-of-town tournament.
- Seasonal Sponsorship: A $500 gift can sponsor a player for a single session (Fall, Winter, or Spring).
- Entire Season: $1,500 covers a player's entire season registration fee.
How the Scholarship Program Works
Our experienced coaches identify talented players from community programs in the Akron area who have the potential and desire to play at a higher level. After a tryout, if the player makes the team on merit, the “Creating Chances” process begins. The scholarship, supported by donations from individuals and groups, covers a portion of the costs for each player. Unlike other clubs in the region, Ambassadors Football does not have a “cap” on their scholarship, operating on the belief that, with God’s help, they will be able to meet the needs of their players.
Last year, the program helped three players from the North Hill area join the 2008 Boys team and five players join the 2007 Boys team, providing them with essential gear and a chance to succeed. The club operates on the belief that every child deserves the opportunity to play soccer at the highest level possible.
